I have used JB weld with a fair ammount of success but it is a bit of a mess. I have had no luck with E6000, which I always thought would stick to anything. You might also consider rivets. It would require drilling a hole in both peices. There are pop rivets, and rivets that you hammer down to hold the pieces tight. It would be an obvious thing, but it can be integrated into the design. I have also seen people use small tubes, and flare the ends with an all it can look very clean and modern. Welding or soldering is ideal if you have the option, and the ability to clean the piece after the joint has been created. If the pieces are thin you will want to solder.
